In addition to the practical field projects the HWTMA undertakes a range of desk based research, analysis and publication. This work responds to a range of requirements such as management issues related to individual sites, broader issues related to the development of maritime archaeology and input into wider multi-disciplinary studies such as coastal change. Of particular importance to the archaeological process is the creation and deposition of archives from investigations, at present there are few available archives for maritime collections. The HWTMA is contributing to addressing this through work on archives created during a range of investigations to help realise their research potential and secure their long term accessibility to allow them to be utilised by students, interested members of the public and schools.
