Description: In 1879 the Holly Hill estate built a mud bank from Holly Hill Hard to Crableck Bank. This is described by F.W.Light as being built over the 'natural' bank. This 'natural' bank was probably earlier sea defenses, these are marked on the 1610 map of Titchfield parish. In an early volume of the Proceedings of the Hampshire Field Club Rev G.Minns published a tracing of the 1610 map, on this the sea defense is numbered and he comments "Probably consisted of groins and withy wattles as at present" 205
