Alum Bay Diver Trail

The Trust is continuing to increase access and appreciation of shipwrecks by developing the diver trail programme in the Solent. The Alum Bay dive trail incorporates the Alum Bay I and II wrecks, the reef and marine life to visiting divers.

Divers follow numbered markers on the seabed using a booklet for guidance. The booklets also highlight the important features on the trails helping divers to identify key areas. Video footage was also shot which will be used to brief divers before they board the boat.

The trail is closely linked to our Maritime Heritage Centre at Fort Victoria where participants will recieve lectures, briefings and a tour of the Sunken History Exhibition. The trail is also an important feature for non-divers. The combination of videos, the underwater booklets, the exhibition and talks provides a window of opportunity for those who are unable to experience the wreck site first hand.

The trail will be launched on May 20th 2005 and open to the public for dives throughout the diving season. Please contact diving@hwtma.org.uk for details of the launch, diving the trail or any other enquiries.

This initiative has been funded by English Heritage, Leader + and the Local Heritage Initiative.

Please see our dive trail pages for more information on diving the trail.
