More from the Mesolithic - Bouldnor 2009

Next week the rapidly eroding Mesolithic occupation site 12 metres below the water at Bouldnor Cliff off the North West coast of the Isle of Wight will be subject to further survey work with recovery of any artefacts at risk.

Ongoing research on this site has revealed fascinating and unique information on the humans using the area and the environment in which they were living. Hearths, flint tools, worked wood, food remains and twisted plant fibres are just some of the amazing recoveries to date. Each year the site is eroded away a bit more, which reveals fresh artefacts, deposits and features. While we seek funding to enable larger scale excavation and research we are undertaking rescue work to gather as much information as possible in the face of on-going change. To enable people to find out more about the site and the diving work we will be testing technology to provide text, image and video reports from the site on a daily basis - so checkout the webpage next week for more updates!
