Landing Craft report available online


You can now read our report into Landing Craft LCT(A) 2428 and its cargo of Centaur tanks and bulldozers on our Archaeological Reports page.
Landing Craft Tank (Armoured) LCT(A) 2428 capsized on the night of June 5th 1944 just east of the Isle of Wight. It deposited its cargo of two Centaur tanks and two armoured bulldozers on the seabed, before it too was sunk by gunfire from a friendly vessel in order to keep the Solent clear for the invasion armada heading to Normandy. In an English Heritage funded project and working with Southsea Sub Aqua Club divers who firsat identified the tanks, the HWTMA investigated the site in 2010.
