Lepe Beach

HWTMA have been investigating the worked stone blocks and potential associated timbers on the foreshore at Lepe. This site was brought to our attention by our Chairman Mr Maldwin Drummond. Some information about the site is known from its discovery in a newspaper article.

It would seem that this may be the site of a shipwreck. We have inspected the remains at low water and the stone blocks are clearly visible, however, no timber is now showing above the foreshore. We are currently unsure of the date of the vessel and its identity.

Fieldwork has allowed HWTMA to inbvestigate the blocks to see if there are any associated timbers buried in the foreshore. Two ship planks were found but at this time it is unclear whether they are associated with the timbers. The shingle on the beach hampered fieldwork and further research and survey is required.
