Hampstead Pupils Take A Lesson in Marine Archaeology

Pupils at a school in Hampstead, London, this week took part in a unique interactive lesson in maritime archaeology, when our Community Outreach team paid them a visit in the Community Outreach Van (COV).

Junior school boys at University College School, spent a whole day learning all aspects of marine archaeology.

Assistant Head, Simon Hall said: "We have had a great time at school today and the boys have really enjoyed themselves. The team have caught the imagination of quite a few boys."

"Pupil Mark Kleiner, age 10, said: "We were in the science lab and it was excellent. I got to play with the underwater robots. It was hard to manoeuvre but was great fun!"

Eight-year-old Aiden Abbott, said: "On the archaeology bus I liked the bones best. But also the microscope was good because I could see lots of tiny underwater things that I normally wouldn't see."

But the pupils were not the only ones having fun! Junior teacher, Mr Hall, said: "Absolutely fascinating stuff! At the start of the day marine archaeology was something that we all knew very little about. However, we soon found that the subject fits wonderfully with many aspects of the school curriculum. It uses skills and knowledge from almost everything we learn at school. We learned about climate change, ship wrecks and lost underwater worlds. We all had a hugely exciting day."
