Dive onto Victory
The Dive onto Victory initiative was launched to celebrate the
200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and Sea
Britain 2005. The project is being run by the Friends of the Trust with
support from the HWTMA and the Local Heritage
Initiative.
The project is seeking to uncover hidden secrets from HMS Victory.
During June 2005, mooring sites from the ship’s past were investigated by
volunteer and professional divers. A range of artefacts were recovered which
were displayed at the International
Festival of the Sea in Portsmouth.

In conjunction with this, the project aims to collect maritime
stories, from the past 200 years. These tales will illustrate experiences
of working on or with the sea since the time of the battle of Trafalgar.
We are looking for people who have a story to tell, know family or friends
with stories or have photographs and artefacts from our maritime past. Please
get in contact if you can help.
We also need people from the community to help collect the stories and display
the results. Free training courses will be provided for people interested
in helping out. The first oral history course is:
10am Wednesday 9 November 2005
at Portsmouth City Museum
The course lasts 3 hours and provides you with the skill
to interview and record story tellers. Other courses in oral history, graphic
design and video editing will be run across the region. These courses will
be arranged according to demand and location, and they are all FREE.
