Stone Age Man at Winchester Discovery Centre
August 2009
The exciting world of the Stone Age wA brought to life by the Hampshire & Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology (HWTMA) at City Space, Winchester Discovery Centre.
HWTMA Outreach Officer, Gareth Owen was dressed as a man who lived 8,000 years ago, with a fascinating range of trappings and essential tools.

During his time at the Discovery Centre, Gareth undertook a range of activities, including:
- Fletching arrows
- Carving (wood, stone)
- Working Flint (only retouch, no flying objects)
- Cave Art
- "Rope" making
- Shell working
- Stone Age "Picnic"
- Bone working
- Skin & Leather working
There was also the opportunity to see some amazing 3D images of microscopic environmental remains found by archaeologists at the underwater Bouldnor Cliff site.
Gareth's presence supported HWTMA's temporary exhibition about Bouldnor Cliff, a mesolithic (8,000 year old) site that lies 12m below the Solent off the north coast of the Isle of Wight.
This exhibition was part of 'Surviving the Stoneage', a display of Winchester Museums' prehistory collections that are not normally on view to the public.
