Getting involved with diving

The HWTMA runs a programme of volunteer and student diving projects. These generally run over the summer season and include single dive days and longer residential projects. There is diving on a range of sites around the Solent, please browse our project pages for further details.

Volunteer divers return from diving in Alum Bay

Places on projects are very limited so please get in contact to register your interest at the earliest opportunity via telephone, (023) 8023 7300 or email info@hwtma.org.uk.

We request you have the minimum dive qualification of BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water or the equivalent from another organisation.

Potential volunteers would find it useful to undertake a NAS (Nautical Archaeology Society) Introduction course before participating in fieldwork. This one day course provides background to maritime archaeology. More information about NAS training course is available via www.nasportsmouth.org.uk.
