HWTMA held a successful event last year and is now focusing this year’s event on how to survive and grow in the current economic climate and how to benefit from changes in funding streams during a downturn. Our guest lecturer is Simon Paine well known for his inspirational talks.

As part of the Archaeological Atlas of the 2 Seas project a number of wreck sites are to be imaged by geophysical survey and investigated by divers between the 22nd and 27th August 2010.

The Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology’s Maritime Bus broke all current records for visitors to the bus during the Gosport Big Day Out event held on the 13th June.

The University of Southampton is co-ordinating the development of a research framework for the maritime, marine and coastal archaeology of England for English Heritage, funded by the ALSF.

This week a new 3D project took off where pupils from Chamberlayne College create 3D images of Southampton’s Maritime Heritage.

Working drafts of chapters of a research framework for the maritime, marine and coastal archaeology of England are online for consultation and feedback for the next six weeks. The project conference will be taking place on Saturday 1st May 2010.

Pupils at a school in Hampstead, London, this week took part in a unique interactive lesson in maritime archaeology, when our Community Outreach team paid them a visit in the Community Outreach Van (COV).

Despite the inauspicious date the event, devised and delivered by HWTMA was a great success!

This summer HWTMA will be present at a number of events!
On Thursday the 29th July there were two trips on the National Oceanography Centre's research vessel RV Callista.
This weekend, staff and volunteers from our Outreach team launched the Festival of British archaeology with activities and games in Portsmouth.
Drop in between 11 and 3 to join in the fun!
Next week site inspection will be taking place on two protected wreck sites - the Needles and Yarmouth Roads.
Next week the rapidly eroding Mesolithic occupation site 12 metres below the water at Bouldnor Cliff off the North West coast of the Isle of Wight will be subject to further survey work with recovery of any artefacts at risk.
